Russia's position on Haiti in the UN Security Council is correct, says Moïse Jean Charles

By Le Nouvelliste, Jan. 25, 2023

The leader of Pitit Dessalines supports Russia in its position on security in Haiti. "Russia's position is correct", Moïse Jean Charles said on the  Magik 9 morning show on Tuesday January 24, 2023. Russia "has the same positions as us", he adds. "The death of Jimmy Chérizier, Izo, Ti Lapli will not solve the problem of insecurity", he insists.

In December 2022, at the request of Russia, Kim Ives, journalist of "Haiti Liberté" explained Jimmy Chérizier, alias Barbecue - spokesperson for the G-9,  aim "is to prevent kidnappings , extortion, rape and other crimes to occur in their neighborhoods”.

Kim Ives was invited to speak at the UN Security Council briefing on Haiti. The journalist indicated that Chérizier's G9 coalition sought to reduce violence and succeeded in establishing a truce in July 2020 between its neighborhoods and those controlled by criminal gangs. The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) had declared in a report of September 25, 2020, that "intentional homicides reported to the police decreased by 12%" during the three months from June to August 2020, a period which coincides with the start of the G9 truce. The mere observation of this statistical fact alarmed the Haitian oligarchy so much that it began to make believe, through its radio stations, its paid experts and its political formations of "left" and "right “, that Chérizier is a threat to peace, Mr. Kim Ives said.

Moïse Jean Charles did not distance himself from Kim Ives' statement. Chérizier, who is accused of several massacres, preferred to point the finger at “the big guys who fuel insecurity". Those, he says, "who supply the arms”.

“Who federated these people? who provided them with weapons? asks Moïse Jean Charles. “They are the ones who make the inhabitants of working-class neighborhoods vulnerable. They exploit their vulnerability by arming them and making the country unlivable. If we solve the problem downstream, we will always be insecure. It will be resolved momentarily, ”said the former Senator.

Moïse Jean Charles mentioned other aspects of the Russian position, which he supports. According to him, the Kremlin is not in favor of an intervention by a foreign military force. Mr. Jean Charles said that Russia supports a Haitian solution to the crisis.
